When new ideas, new systems or new technologies are introduced, often what turns on is a debate that sees the contrast between the usual and the futuristic. This is the case, for example, of the latest opposition that has arisen between the Intranet, a technology that has become widespread and used for more than a decade, and the concept of Digital Workplace.
But, as with all new introductions, this too needs a minimum of explanation first.
With Digital Workplace we mean the work environment, but no longer with a purely physical connotation as it is customary to do and think, but from a digital point of view. However, the concept of Digital Workplace carries with it blurred boundaries, taking on a form that varies according to the companies that adopt it. In a perspective and historical moment in which you no longer look at the office as a necessary physical location to be able to work or at classic times as elements that mark working time and holidays, the Digital Workplace is designed precisely to facilitate the achievement of objectives of the individual worker and to improve general well-being and productivity.
Let’s see what are the necessary and satisfactory features to talk about an efficient Digital Workplace. First of all, concept that is dear to us, the fact that it is Human-centric; the ideal Digital Workplace? A place where the happiness and the engagement of the collaborators are obtained by providing the right information to the right person at the right time, in a logic of complete adaptability and taking advantage of the possibilities that artificial intelligence offers us today.
Furthermore, the Digital Workplace is not only and simply the set of technological tools available to a user, but how they are presented, in a way that is coherent, usable and above all productive.
Having said that, the Digital Workplace represents something wider, which implies a real change in the mentality of companies. It is, in fact, a real cultural revolution and as such requires the development of new, less centralized organizational models that are more oriented towards the use of Social Collaboration tools and IT tools, which must necessarily be mobile and user friendly, to facilitate the availability of people and knowledge. Finally, an element not to be underestimated, the Digital Workplace helps to strengthen the engagement and to enrich, in its entirety, the employee experience.
And just on three fundamental pillars, two of which just mentioned, Microsoft founded its strategy in terms of Modern Workplace: empowerment, or help employees and collaborators to better express their potential, supporting them in carrying out their work in a functional way and productive to reach the maximum result, enabling the so-called “goodworking”; engagement, that is, engaging in a continuous, relevant and personalized way every member and team of the organization to improve collaboration, productivity and creativity both individually and collectively and employability, which is meant to allow the creation of training and development paths, cut to size for everyone thanks to Artificial Intelligence with upskilling and reskilling methods that guarantee continuous employment and growth. In conclusion, the Digital Workplace is not just a new way of working: it’s, above all, an approach that revolutionizes relationships and goals, which however, in order to be effective in its adoption, require adequate planning and commitment from the entire corporate team .
